Network Engineer (Shift positions)

Location: San Jose, CA

Duration: Min 6 +months  

PLEASE NOTE:

- 1st position will be MP-specific M-F ~9am-6pm assuming 1hr lunch since no OT, and possibly a later shift on infrequent Thursdays of 3pm-midnight. Will also need flexibility to cover up to 8hrs of 6pm-6am shift on an infrequent basis to cover for PTO of other employees.

- 2nd position will be PP-specific 12hr shifts of Sun-Tues 8am-8pm, and every other Wednesday 8am-8pm, so there will be 4hrs of OT per day worked. Will also need flexibility, potentially longer term, to move to a ~8pm-8am shift if we can find someone with that flexibility. Also, the hours may move to 6am-6pm shifts.

As an evening or day shift Network and Network Security Engineer on the Network Support team you will be working in our NOC and be responsible for monitoring and support of a large multi-data center network as well as a global corporate network with dozens of locations.

A major component of the job will be monitoring and maintaining network and network security equipment, WAN circuit troubleshooting, and handling proactive and reactive outages directly and by working with our vendors. Additionally you will be resolving network service requests along with troubleshooting performance issues with other groups. Other job responsibilities include monitoring network security equipment, managing network capacity, deploying equipment, implementing process improvements, administering network management systems or developing and maintaining network automation tools.

1. Ability to troubleshoot switches and routers, particularly Cisco.

2. Ability to adjust to conflicting and changing priorities in a high-stress environment.

3. Flexibility to work long (12 hour) shifts with possible changing schedules.

Q. What would the typical work day look like for this contractor (what are they responsible for)?

A. The typical work day would include answering phones, receiving instructions from senior staff in the NOC, troubleshooting network alerts, and working with vendors on circuit troubleshooting / RMA replacement.
