Position: Senior Systems Engineer / Linux Administrator
Location: Fairfield County CT
Duration: Starts at 3+ months with extensions
Experience: 8+ Yrs 

Seeking an experienced systems engineer to join the Systems Administration team. Activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and deploying solutions.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Windows server and Linux server/desktop systems that support the firm-wide infrastructure; Windows and Linux systems that support front, middle and back office operations.

 Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance, research and development to ensure continual innovation.


Responsibilities
•Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.

•Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.

•Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards; create and maintain documentation as it relates to configurations.

•Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

•Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

•Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

•Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.

•Provide support per request from various departments. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

•Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

•Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

•Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk as required; maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

Requirements 
•Minimum 7 years in information technology with at least 3 years of experience in high frequency/low-latency engineering, administration and troubleshooting.

•Significant experience and deep understanding of installing, configuring, optimizing, maintaining and troubleshooting of current and legacy Linux server and desktop (RPM-based) operating systems.

•Significant experience in low-latency and performance tuning; 10 Gb network adapters with kernel stack bypass, Red Hat MRG and HP hardware.

•Deep understanding of advanced networking concepts and protocols (IP addressing/subnet masks, DHCP, DNS, NTP, IP Multicast, VLAN Tagging etc.) and network diagnostic tools (including analysis with tcpdump/Wireshark/strace/ethtool).

•Good understanding of Windows operating systems, Active Directory principles, management and best practices.

•Strong understanding of security concepts including firewall, server, and desktop endpoint protection

•Experience with enterprise-class data protection, Virtualization, system monitoring and hardware monitoring,

•Basic understanding of mail services including but not limited to Microsoft Exchange; good understanding of SMTP.

•Good knowledge of Enterprise Storage Systems, Fiber Channel switching, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies

•Anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam applications for Windows and Linux operating systems

•Basic familiarity with Cisco NX-OS, switching versus routing and VLANs.

•Knowledge of transport mechanisms including FTP, SSH/SCP, HTTP, SSL
